What People Are Saying

The Spiritual Transformation Inventory has become the cornerstone of our Christian Formation Process. Through a very understandable group report, we are able to assess how each cohort is growing and developing across their ‘Asbury Experience.’ Perhaps more importantly, the personalized reports have been a valuable spiritual assessment tool for students.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

I’ve used the Spiritual Transformation Inventory with seminary students for nearly a decade.  The insights they gain from it about their personal strengths and limitations are often profound and always long-lasting.  It’s simply the best tool there is to help your faculty and students grasp the degree to which their attitudes and behaviors reflect a theologically based and psychologically sound understanding of Christian spiritual maturity.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Spiritual formation has always been a core learning goal at our school. In the STI we finally have an effective way to measure our effectiveness in this area. Students are given the STI at two different points in their academic program - once as freshmen and once as juniors. This has given both our students and the institution the opportunity to accurately identify areas of growth and need while also devising strategies to bring about spiritual health. Specific questions on the inventory have also been a useful tool to help us assess the effectiveness of co-curricular activities like chapel and mentoring groups.

Professor of Bible and Assistant Academic Dean,

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

At Columbia International University (CIU) we want to engage the head, heart, and hands of each student.  We desire to see every student excel academically and be enriched spiritually. We incorporated the Spiritual Transformation Inventory into our internship course to help our students gain insight into their personal and spiritual growth over the course of their internship. The STI has challenged and encouraged them as they discover both strengths and areas of needed growth in their lives. The results in the individual reports contribute to the development of a spiritual growth plan uniquely suited for each student. The STI has encouraged our students to become more connected to God and to those to whom they are ministering.

VALIDATED BY THE HIGHEST SCIENTIFIC STANDARDS

The Spiritual Transformation Inventory is a new class of spiritual assessment that combines theoretical depth, scientific
rigor, practical utility, and national benchmark norms.

Reliability

All 33 STI scales meet the highest standard of reliability as measured by Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. STI Alpha coefficients range from .75 to .94, with a mean of .87, indicating a high degree of internal consistency according to scientific standards which set .70 as the minimum coefficient for “acceptable” reliability.

Validity

Over 10 years of research on the STI has demonstrated strong construct validity based on factor analysis procedures, and convergent and divergent validity based on correlations with numerous independent measures of spirituality, psychological well-being, and physical symptoms.
